However, most beginners are either stepping into the middle of a project or trying to document a completed project. There needs to be a special section on "How to fix it when someone else has screwed it up!

I especially like the steps given on accessing certain menu items. Many menus on Civil 3D are buried deep. Chappell has done a very good job of starting at the beginning. They did however leave off essentials and beyond from the end of the chapter which diminish the usefulness of this book. One person found this helpful. Not too bad at all. I only wish the exercises in each chapter would "flow" better.

This is a fantastic book for Civil 3D, it takes you all the way through designing a subdivision from scratch. Good book for all levels. Great book! Really hammers home the fundamentals you need to actually use the program in the industry. I would keep this book for the long run. Gave a good overview of the software.
